San Diego attorney Alfred Rava is making a name for himself in Oakland.
Alameda Superior Court recently approved a settlement in his class action lawsuit against the Oakland A's for giving away a plaid hat to ladies at a Mother's Day game in 2004. When Rava – and other male fans – didn't receive a hat, he sued the baseball organization for sex discrimination.
The $250,000 settlement, expected to get final approval in August, gives the first 2,500 men who can prove they are men and attended the game on May 8, 2004, a cash and discount package worth $100.
Rava has been behind a string of gender discrimination lawsuits. He targeted the L.A. Angels in 2005 for giving ladies pink tote bags. His lawsuit was later dismissed by a judge, but the ball team revamped its freebie policy anyway, making it gender-neutral. Rava also has targeted numerous promotions and discount offers by San Diego nightclubs, restaurants and theaters that favored one sex over the other.
